Hello,

I am fortunate enough to be able to travel this wonderful world of ours. I enjoy seeing new places and and meeting new people along the way. My style of travel isn’t for everyone, but it works for me. This site is a work in progress and will be updated as i make my way around and figure out where to next.

⇩

Iceland

The trip where it begins.

This was my first trip with a new passport. I had a passport before and had gone to Scotland, but this was my first overseas adventure solo. I also had no experience traveling like this. I was to land in Reykjavik and catch a bus to the trailhead to begin a five day hike to a glacier, across it, then ride back to town. It did not go exactly as planned. I had packed all my gear for the hike, my tent and such, and way too many clothes to carry for the duration. Needless to say, I cut the hike short after three nights out there and caught the bus back to town. I did get to spend two days wandering around the town, which I really enjoyed, before coming back home.

Colombia and Ecuador

If it could go wrong, it did.

My second trip on this solo adventure of mine. This time I would fly into Bogota, Colombia and fly out of Quito, Ecuador. The plan was to fly from Bogota to Cali, then ride a bus to the border, cross the border into Ecuador and ride a bus to Quito. This trip did not go as planned. I got to Bogota and had some money loaded onto a debit card that, as it turns out, did not work outside the US. I was finally able to resolve that issue and fly to Cali. Once in Cali, things were looking up. I caught the bus to the border and crossed without any issues. However, once in Ecuador, the issues would pile up quickly. At the time, and unbeknownst to me, there were country-wide protests and there were no buses to be found. I had to basically walk to Quito. This was not even type two fun.

Puerto Rico

Ahh, the Covid year. Couldn’t do any international travel, but with a vaccine, Puerto Rico was an option. So, I took it. This was the first year that my friend got to travel with me and start a new summer tradition. Nothing real crazy happened this trip, but I was able to rent a car and travel all over this beautiful island. We went from beach to beach and from the sea to the highest peak on the island. Even though Google maps had us initially driving up to someone’s house and not to the top of the mountain.

 Costa Rica

Another solo trip for me. I had a rental car and drove all over the country from the Pacific to the Caribbean sea. I visited volcanoes and saw the cities. I stayed at a hostel in San Jose, the capital and made that my home base. I went from Jaco to Limon and everywhere in between.

bahamas

I took this trip with my daughter for her first passport stamp. We used public transportation to get around Nassau, which is cost effective and pretty reliable. The Air B&B that we stayed at had a private beach and was close to everything. We walked across the bridge onto Paradise Island and got to walk around the Atlantis resort. Overall, a good trip.

Mexico

Finally! A relaxing trip.

On my third try, I had a vacation where everything went as planned. A fun, relaxing weekend in Cancun. No problems.

Guatemala

Guatemala was an adventure and has cemented itself as one of my favorite places I have been so far. My friend and I rented a car and stayed at a different place every night. We started on the black sand beaches formed by volcanic activity and discovered that pizza is universal. On day three I crashed the rental car and thought it was going to get bad when the police told me that I needed a lawyer. I zip tied the bumper back on and the trip was salvaged. We went to the jungle in Tikal and saw the sun rise while sitting on the top of a pyramid. We took some back roads and attempted to cross into Belize to see another pyramid, with no avail. We then ended up back in Antigua Guatemala and experienced an earthquake that had it’s epicenter close to where we had stayed the first night. Overall, an excellent trip. 10/10 in spite of the car wreck.

Panama

My second trip with my daughter was to Panama. Getting around was pretty easy with Uber. We went to see the canals at Miraflores and saw a Disney cruise ship going through. We wandered through the old part of the city and it was an overall relaxing trip.

 Canada

This trip to Canada was for the purpose of going to the easternmost point in North America, which is near St. Johns, Newfoundland. My son and daughter joined me for this road trip. We drove from Georgia to around 600 miles away from Greenland. I can say without a doubt, that I was the first person in North America to see the sunrise that morning. We drove through New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and even made a side trip to Prince Edward Island to finally end up in Newfoundland. We also went to Lubec, Maine to see the easternmost point in the United States.

El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cosata Rica

I found the Tica Bus and took a bus ride across four countries. I started in El Salvador and rode across Central America. The bus was comfortable, but was absolutely freezing for the first leg of the journey. We stopped for lunch at a roadside restaurant. The food was good and I guess some people complained and got the temperature back to a reasonable level for the remainder of the ride. Crossing into Honduras was simple and went without a hitch. Leaving Honduras was just as simple as we left and crossed into Nicaragua. This is where my first problem occurred. There was an online form that I had to fill out for the border crossing and I guess that I filled it out wrong with my limited Spanish. I was detained at the border until we could get it ironed out, but it ultimately was. I spent the night in Managua and the following morning we were off again. Leaving the country meant another short delay, but I was allowed to leave. Once I crossed into Costa Rica, it was smooth sailing.

Egypt

This trip started with a four hour layover in London before flying to Cairo. Once we landed in Cairo, we went to the hotel where we would be staying. And we were greeted with wonderful hospitality. By the end of the trip, we were like family. We were well taken care of and had a river boat cruise on the Nile arranged. We also had a driver and a guide for our tour of the pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian museum, the pyramids of Dahshur and Saqqarah. We were absolutely blown away with the kindness and hospitality of the people there. After leaving, we had a day long layover in London.

London

The day long layover was unexpected, but welcomed. We got to ride the tube and see the Thames River as well as Buckingham Palace. London is a big city and we got to see just a little slice of it. But what we did see was great.

Jamaica

This trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica was a short, but relaxing trip. No issues here. Just a quiet time on the beach.

Peru

Lima, Peru officially makes the top five list. An absolutely gorgeous city filled with kind people. If anyone wants to know how to operate public spaces, take a master class from Lima. There are tons of public parks with a lot to offer. Bike /walking trails, dog parks, skate parks, public beaches, tennis courts, you name it, they have it and open to the public.

Chile

It wasn’t planned, but I so happened to be in Santiago on the Chilean independence day. A lot of businesses were closed, but I didn’t have a problem navigating or finding some open restaurants. I got a BIP card and rode the subway to the end of the line and found a wonderful market and got some souvenirs there. Nestled in the foothills of the Andes mountains Santiago is a wonderful city.

The dominican republic

This was a fun little getaway for my daughter’s birthday. We stayed in Punta Cana for a few nights. It’s a nice town with a lot of resorts and tourists. The food is good and the beaches are nice as well. Plenty to do there.

denmark

Had a great time in Copenhagen. The food was good and the sights were worth seeing. This is a good gateway to the rest of Europe if you can get here.

Sweden

Goteborg, Sweden was another nice place to visit. Not the capital of Stockholm, but the second most populous city in the country. I took the high speed train between countries at 125 MPH.

norway

Oslo, Norway was cold, but amazing. I had prepared for the cold, but not necessarily for walking through snow.

ireland

I made it to Ireland at the beginning and at the end of this trip. Had a good time and got to see a lot of Dublin.

France

Thionville, france was a neat little stop on the train tour of europe.

switzerland

bern, switzerland was an amazing city. very senic and the food was good.

italy

milan, italy was nice. the home of leonardo da vinci, the city is filled with beautiful architecture, including the milan cathedral.

slovokia

bratislava, slovokia was a short stop on the train ride to hungary.

hungary

budapest, hungary is a city full of history. the parliment building is an absolute wonder of architecture.

guyana

guyana is the only english speaking country in south america. the capital of georgetown is located on the eastern side of the continent and has a coastline with the atlantic ocean.

aruba

aruba wasn’t the best trip i have ever taken. it was off to a slow start getting to my room, then while walking to the store, i was bitten by two dogs. I was then introduced to the healthcare system there. but we carry on and can’t let that completely ruin the trip.

finland

helsinki, finland was cold, but i found a sauna and got warmed up.

estonia

Tallin, estonia was an interesting, old former communist bloc city with a rich history.

latvia

riga, latvia was an absolute gem. loved the city and the vibe there.
